Weight Loss Sunglasses
Just when you thought there were sunglasses for every occasion, sport and activity, there are now some for dieting.

(Doesn't she look happy to be eating?)The thinking goes: The blue shading makes found look unappetizing, as blue is the least appealing color for food. When you think about it, this kind of makes sense. Most of the best foods have very little color (steak, caviar, truffles, etc) and there are very few blue foods.
I really don’t see these working though. I mean, dieting doesn’t work if it is too hard to keep up, or too easy to avoid. If I looked at a juicy steak with these sunglasses on, I would still know the pleasure awaiting me if I take them off. Maybe if they had contact lenses that were blue, it would work. Save your cash for a month at the gym.

What Sunglasses Should I Wear While Driving?
My dad has been wearing the biggest possible pair of sunglasses while driving since I was too young to realize that they are just as important as they are un-cool. Most cars come equipped with some level of protection from the sun in the form of a “sun shade”, or a band of tinted glass near the top of the windshield. This is not enough, unless you are only looking straight, or the sunlight is coming straight at you, which is never the case. Wearing sunglasses while driving is necessary in almost all conditions, weather and environments. There are two things to consider when buying sunglasses for driving: lens features and lens color.
Your lenses should have a polarized light filter. Because of the polarization of light (as we learned before), we are exposed to glare that causes distractions and dangers. This is especially true while driving. Many surfaces can polarize light including glass, water, snow and even concrete! Concrete on its own can cause the polarization of light because of the material used, but also, our roads are often covered with oils and chemicals which makes the glare even worse. Ironically, our own cars even cause glare, as light reflecting of the hood can cause a considerable amount of it. Perhaps more distracting is that the glare from the hoods and windshield of on-coming cars.
A polarized lens filter greatly reduces the glare cause by polarized light reflecting off of water (notice the “white” water and glare has disappeared with the polarized filter on the right).
The color of the lenses is also very important. There are several categories of lenses color (which we will get to at a later date), but while driving, they should be reasonably dark. In general they should not be lightly colored lenses, and should not change the color of your surroundings. Red, green or orange lenses are not recommended, as they will change the color of everything, include traffic lights! I recommend grey or brown which both won’t change the colors in your view, and will provide sufficient coverage from the sun. Stay away from super dark (Category 4) lenses, as they will not let enough light through, and are even illegal when driving in many countries!
I highly recommend having a pair of sunglasses with polarized lenses for driving, at all times. The difference between having to deal with glare and not having to is huge. Not only does polarized light feel uncomfortable on the eyes, the glare it causes is distracting, and this can be very dangerous when driving. Bring your pair nice time you hit the road and get a pair with good lenses if you don’t have one.

Busiest Booth at MIDO 2008 - Tom Ford
Part cutting-edge fashion, part controversial, part greased-up-hairy-man-chest, Tom Ford’s booth caught the eye of buyers, hangers-on and people trying to look cool. His booth was by far the busiest at the MIDO show. I literally had to fight my way through cocktail holding socialites just to get a glimpse of the new products.
Whether it was because of the recent controversy surrounding the ads for his latest sunglasses line or a genuine interest in the actual sunglasses themselves, I’ll never know.

Sunglasses in the Movie Ironman
Robert Downey Jr. as Ironman is simply the best cast role in 2008 up to this point. In terms of attitude, style and cachet, there couldn’t have been a better choice. His delivery of the character is going to be remembered for a long time and somewhere, in a small dark corner, I can hear Superman quietly sobbing. The character was brought out to an even greater degree by his slick suits and stylish sunglasses. My favourite pair in the movie was the one in the first few scenes in Afghanistan, where he stole the show and set the stage. I looked around and found out that he is wearing Ray Ban RB 3320, and if it doesn’t bother you to buy sunglasses online, there are several websites offering them.
I have to be honest that I was not excited to see this movie, but it was a lot of fun and I’m sure the second and third installments will be just as good. Did anyone notice the director’s role in the film?

Best Booth at MIDO 2008
The nicest booth at the MIDO show was none other than Maui Jim, who obviously poured a lot of money into it. Supporting the Hawaiian theme, there were beautiful women giving out lei's and saying, “Aloha”, and all of the employees (who were Italian) were wearing Hawaiian shirts, shorts and sandals. Quite a scene.
This slick booth was no doubt funded by the prices you have to pay to buy Maui Jim sunglasses, and the booth really held up their premium image. The soft soothing tones of reggae were warming the area, and finely dressed Europeans sat on couches and talked about all things Maui Jim. There didn’t seem to be any new models available, they were there just to remind everyone of how cool they are, and it worked. The booth was really popular and was overflowing with people. They did a good job of keeping people interested in them, for at least another year.
