Shameless Fixation # 8 - Erlik Greaseland

I've mentioned Erlik sunglasses before and now I've got a different style of theirs stuck in my head. It's called Greaseland (excellent name) and it's huge in many ways. I've got a thing for large over-sized sunglasses and this frame soothes my addiction.

Erlik - Greaseland Sunglasses - Guys look money in these

The most striking aspect of it for me is the gold finish, which literally glistens in the sun. It's like a badass with a hidden touch of luxury.

You can find the frame at the Erlik website.

Shameless Fixation # 7 – Dita Targa (Dita Eyewear)

In my never ending quest to improve my masculinity, I come across things that I can’t go without.  Of course it is often eyewear, of the aviator kind.  My object of affection right now is Dita Targa, and that affection is shameless.  They have been seen on several celebrities, including Usher.

Dita Targa Sunglasses

Other than looking fantastic, the quality of Dita Targa is incredible.  I tried it out for size the other day and the shape quite nicely fits my head.  The frame is handcrafted Zyl acetate, the temples are titanium, there is a spring hinge on them (so they fit all shapes and sizes of people) and they are manufactured in Japan, known internationally as one of, if not the best, places for high-end eyewear.

The price of the Dita Targa is about $275.

You can buy Dita Eyewear at their Dita Legends site:

Shameless Fixation # 6 – Prada Sunglasses PR01GS (PR 01GS)

In an airport recently a pair of shades caught my eye with a frame like nothing I’ve seen before.  They were Prada sunglasses and it’s the first pair of Prada I’ve really liked for myself.

Prada Sunglasses - PR01GS - Made for me

I like the 3/4 width frame and it sat really well on my face.  Fitting for sunglasses is very important, and these are well designed.  Maybe I should pay more attention to Prada sunglasses.  Hmm…

The price is about €180.   What do you think?

Shameless Fixation # 5 – Oakley Gascan Polished White

I’m going back to the drawing board on this one.  I’ve focussed so much of the money I don’t have on the most expensive sunglasses the world has to over, and I’ve got to take a step back.  Times are tough, so tough you can get a pair of Oakleys for less than $100.  It really feels like a long time since that’s been possible.

Oakley Gascan Polished White - So clean

I’ve got to say that I’ve had many different pairs of Oakley Gascan sunglasses in my hand, and I’ve come close to getting them before, but just never did it.  The Gascan is a very streamlined yet simple design.  It almost looks like a fistful of hurt.  I’ve got a narrow but long skull, however it fits very nicely and is extremely lightweight.  My favourite feature is the temples.  When you fold the temples in, they fold in steps.  It’s a very cool and subtle feature.  I would have to recommend the polished white shade as shadows hit them really nicely and the square O sticks out beautifully.

This pair retails for about $90.

Shameless Fixation #4 – Barton Perreira Spindler

In my fourth entry focused on something I can’t have (why do I do this to myself?), I focus all of my love to none other than the Barton Perreira Spindler.  It is a thing of sunglass beauty and is one of the more exquisite models I’ve seen in awhile.

Find your way to me

The small detailing is what separates this from all the others on my mind now.  The mesh they have put on it could be taken as tacky if not done well, but it’s all class with Barton Perreira.  This model means business.  If anyone has it in their heart to donate me a pair, let me know.

I’ve read that they are made in Japan, which is definitely a good thing.  Many of the more expensive brands are completely made in China, and the quality and craftsmanship does not compare.  If you are unfamiliar with this brand, take a look at what I’ve said about them before, or their website.

Shameless Fixation #3 – Dita's Splendour

Ok, so I write a lot about Dita here, but there is good reason for it.  They are making some of the best sunglasses right now in both design and quality.  They are made in Japan, whereas a lot of the bigger name brands have been made in China for years.  They have been popular with celebrities for some time now, and with designs like this they’ll only get more popular.

When they release a new design I pay attention.  This is a recent release and it is simply fantastic.  It is called Splendour.  It has the feel of an Oliver Peoples or Barton Perreira, but with Dita cachet, which can not be imitated.  I simply love the vintage style nose piece.  Take a look:

Splendour indeed

The above pair is the White Gold model, but they also come in black, brown and camo.  I’ve seen this style on David Beckham among others and it is just getting popular.

They retail for about $300.  If you are not familiar with Dita, take a look at their website.

Shameless Fixation # 2 – Tom Ford’s Ford Sunglasses

It seems as though Tom Ford’s genuine focus on the sunglasses line of this year has paid off.  They are selling well everywhere and for good reason.  They put an incredible amount of time into not only the design and materials, but the color matching is excellent as well.  The detailing on the latest collection is not over the top and is in fact quite subtle.  There are no large logos anywhere, but some “T’s” are found here and there, like on the bridge of the model below.

My favourite model and current fixation is aptly named Ford.  Have a peek.

So slick

I tried these on at a shop the other day and wearing them gave me the closest look to celebrity I’ve ever had, which, granted, is not saying much, but I still felt like money.  If I had the wallet of a celebrity I would buy them right away to complete a vintage look.  This pair goes for over $300 in the U.S., so I’m accepting donations as of now.

The model has a classic enough feel that it’s going to look good for years to come, so you can think of it as an investment.  Cheers to Tom Ford for this excellent model and overall collection

Shameless Fixation # 1 - Dita Eyewear and Cazal Vintage 902

I own a lot of pairs of sunglasses and the collection is always growing, but I’m not Old Money, so sometimes I can only pine for what I don’t have. This feeling comes around from time to time and it’s either me personally or my bank which keeps me from buying said item.

Right now my shameless fixation is Dita and Cazal’s collaborative re-release of the vintage 902. Gaze your eyes:

The whole set

This is the sharpest style I’ve seen in a long time. The lines are so slick and incredibly cut. A lot of work was put into this model. Cazal and Dita are both known for their intricate frames and this one is no exception.
