Gucci Sunglasses 2011 Spring Summer - Runway Sunglasses

Gucci sunglasses, like those of many other big brands, are hit or miss.  Generally they go the safe route and save the more original frames for the runway.  Today we'll look at a few styles only seen on the runway and a few of the more common frames they have out for Spring/Summer 2011.

 Gucci Runway Sunglasses 2011

This is the first frame that caught my eye on from their photo section for 2011, however you won't find it in the list of available frames.  It's a shame, because it is one of the nicer frames they have now.  This begs the question, why display this frame when it's not for sale?  I know they want to generate interest for the season with some sharp frames.
Gucci Sunglasses 2011 Spring Summer GG 1636/S
Gucci Sunglasses 2011 Spring Summer GG 3160/S

These two frames are not bad looking but have a lot of G's all over them.  Though not terribly looking, I could do without the crazy branding.  GG 3160/S above is a sweet-looking cat eye shape, but I prefer minimal frames with this kind of style.

So why do so many brands show stuff at the show that you'll never be able to buy?

Another lost frame.

Prada Sunglasses Style for 2009 – PR09LS

World renowned fashion leader Prada has always been know for pushing the boundaries of style while staying within a set of sure limits and maintaining a classic look.  They come back again and again every year with something fresh, and 2009 will be no different.  I’ve looked over their new styles available and have settled on the PR09LS as a stand out.  Feast your eyes:

The simple lines and curves on it separate it from the rest of the new Prada sunglass styles, however there are a few more promising models.  From the looks of it, big sunglasses will again be popular in 2009.  Prada has been promoting this model on their website with some interesting animation and it has already been picked up by a lot of online sites.

If you want a fashionable pair of sunglasses that is still a safe bet, I would get this model.  PR09LS retails for about $245.  With a little searching you maybe be able to find it cheaper.

Chanel 5018 Sunglasses - Impractically Hot

Making one single style of sunglasses this hot can’t be easy, but Chanel has done it with its 5018 style. This is perhaps the most popular pair of shades among high-end fashion conscious women. First appearing on the faces of Nicole Richie, Mary-Kate Olsen, this style grabs your eyes immediately. A friend of mine has this pair, and people are always asking her what they are and where she got them. Behold:

For women only for now

This is maybe the style of the season for women. I’ve heard that it is almost impossible to get hold of now, and people are paying big dollars on online shops and e-bay for them.

While the half-gradation really doesn’t make sense, it doesn’t need to, it looks amazing. Creative, original, the 5018 is just one of a great line of great Chanel sunglasses available this year. Check them out:

Kanye and Ksubi Collaborate

Two meccas of modern coolness, Kanye West and fashion icon Ksubi, have combined to make a new series of sunglasses. Ksubi, the cult fashion label from Australia, couldn’t find a better match in Kanye, who has been connected with them for a few years already. To be released in 2009, these shades will without a doubt look good on Kanye, and the peasants among us can only hope for the same.

If you don’t know much about Ksubi, or haven’t even heard of them, don’t worry, most people don’t. But if you look to their official website, you won’t find anything more than a page that looks like an extension of Google.

You could just buy a pair of their jeans online to get a sense of the Ksubi style, but be ready to spend over $300AUD (Australian). With a Kanye album costing about $15, I’m guessing the price for a pair of their sunglasses to be somewhere in between there, but closer to the jeans.

TopMan Announces "Classic Sunglasses Project"

Topman announced this week their “Classic Sunglasses Project”, which features designs of classic styles reinterpreted by such designers as Bernhard Willhelm, Kim Jones, Oliver Spencer and Linda Farrow. Take a look at some of the designs below.

Topman is an international design house focusing on urban male stylings. They have everything from three-piece suits to glam rock jeans and all the accessories to go with it. They’ve carried sunglasses before, but this focus on “classic” styles comes at a great time as it seems that everybody is wearing Wayfarers or Aviators this year. Now you can equip yourself with one of these styles crafted by a popular designer. Each pair is £50.

Stella McCartney Signs Deal with Luxottica

Stella McCartney signed a five year deal last week with the Luxottica Group to design sunglasses for the upcoming season.

The first pairs will be available in 2009, and it is not clear if she will make her own line of eyewear, or design something for an existing Luxottica brand. Luxottica is the worlds largest group of fashion eyewear brands, owning many popular names such as D&G, Bvlgari, Vogue, Chanel and even Oakley as of 2007.

I guess it is expected that Stella will take her classical chic look and transfer into some shades and we will probably see something nice come out of this. Let’s just hope she stays away from Oakley, oh and the music industry.

Anna ter Haar Sunglasses, and Myself, in Milan

Anna ter Haar has taken her "bleeding" chairs theme and style and extended it to a pair of sunglasses she's made for Klavers van Engelen, which were recently modeled in Milan for his first show there.

The sunglasses, described as looking like "dripping tar", were presented with Klavers' new line, and it's tough to say if they were a huge hit. I don't expect to see them on e-bay anytime soon. Perfect for a night out in Milan, the object of stares at your local pub, these sunglasses are as creative as you can get with sunglasses as your canvas.

Speaking of Milan, I will be going there in a week to meet up with some family, and most likely stopping by the MIDO Show, which should have all the latest models for sports and fashion. I plan to take a load of pictures and post them here. Keep an eye out.
