George Clooney Sunglasses in The American Movie

George Clooney stars in "The American", a film about a hit-man on his last job that runs into trouble.  I'm always interested in what George is doing, but sadly this plot seems to have been done a few times before.  Maybe with famed photographer Anton Corbijn as director, we will see some interesting still shots and nice sets.  At least with the two of them the movie will look good.

Mr. Clooney wears two pairs of sunglasses in the film.  The first one...

... I cannot figure out.  There are no distinctive markings of any kind.  They are just a regular pair of sunglasses, though I'm sure they are name brand.  If you know what they are, please let me know in the comments below.

UPDATE(Sept 3): These are Ermenegildo Zegna sunglasses. The model is SZ_3174.

The second pair...

... I know.  George Clooney's sunglasses here are Persol 2883s sunglasses.  They are not one of the most popular Persol styles, but that's a good thing.  George Clooney has been known to wear Persol sunglasses in different films including Oceans 12.

You can get a pair of the Persol's below:

Mary J. Blige to Release Own Sunglasses Line

Every celebrity seems to be releasing sunglasses.  We've had Paris Hilton, Madonna, the Olsen sisters and rumours of Lady Gaga recently.  Now we hear that Mary J. Blige sunglasses are soon to be found on shelves everywhere.  The line is going to be called Melodies by MJB and should be available soon.

Melodies by Mary J. Blige

The sunglasses are very diva-ish and look reasonable, but they aren't breaking any creativity laws here.  Most celebrity sunglasses are like this.  The Madonna D&G sunglasses were very plain looking but everyone talked about them because of Dolce and Gabbanna.  I don't think the same thing will be happening here.

Sunglasses in the Movie Wanted

Once again Angelina Jolie is busting caps and taking numbers in the new movie Wanted. This is perhaps her 7th role in which she is constantly shooting a gun, and I’ve heard it is just as “good” as the rest of them. Without spoiling the film, Wanted revolves around the stories of several underground hitmen, who have exceptional abilities with a gun, involving throwing “curve balls” with bullets. The main plot line involves involving and training “the one” who has the greatest skills of all of them, just as long as they can convince him of this. Heard of this plot before?

Angelina Jolie is of course the star of the movie Wanted. Sunglasses do not abound in this one, but there is one pair (pictured above) that I’ve been asked about. It is by Oliver Peoples and is called Strummer. I’ve seen pictures of Angelina with this on before, so I assume it is her own. If you want to pick this pair up you are going to need to part with about $350. Can I get some reviews on this movie?

Sunglasses in the Movie Hancock

Sometime probably about three years ago, a bunch of marketing wizards in suits decided that it would be original to remake the “modern” superhero into a toque-wearing alcoholic homeless guy, and Hancock is the spawn of this idea. It will hit theatres in the next few weeks (despite the premiere being put back) and there is some hype around it. I must say that I feel like I know the whole plot of the movie after having seen the trailer and I’ll break it down like this: Will Smith saves the day, again. Or how about four steps: Will Smith is an idiot, goes through some kind of life challenging experience, becomes a better superperson and then saves the day.

The glasses featured in the poster that is plastered all over this globe are Dior Mist Black. Odd that a homeless guy would choose to wear Dior sunglasses, or that a superhero would even need them. Forgive my cynicism, but I’m usually not a fan of action movies and I’m not buying into this. Are a lot of people planning on see this? If you have, what do you think?

Kanye and Ksubi Collaborate

Two meccas of modern coolness, Kanye West and fashion icon Ksubi, have combined to make a new series of sunglasses. Ksubi, the cult fashion label from Australia, couldn’t find a better match in Kanye, who has been connected with them for a few years already. To be released in 2009, these shades will without a doubt look good on Kanye, and the peasants among us can only hope for the same.

If you don’t know much about Ksubi, or haven’t even heard of them, don’t worry, most people don’t. But if you look to their official website, you won’t find anything more than a page that looks like an extension of Google.

You could just buy a pair of their jeans online to get a sense of the Ksubi style, but be ready to spend over $300AUD (Australian). With a Kanye album costing about $15, I’m guessing the price for a pair of their sunglasses to be somewhere in between there, but closer to the jeans.
